Foods That Make You Happy
For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.
Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
